Eight In A Bar is an award winning Cornish male voice group. Formed originally as an octet more than 20 years ago, and has since grown to its present number of 18, thus enabling it to expand its repertoire and tackle some more complex music. As a close harmony group, its aim is to sing something a little different.
The group is based in Falmouth, Cornwall, and is one of the most popular and well known male voice choirs throughout Cornwall.
Guided by our musical director at the time, Gareth Churcher, the group has sung in Southern Ireland, South Wales, taken part in the Morlaix Music Festival, as well as twice competing successfully in the Bournemouth Music festival, winning the Folk Song Class in 2006; and, in 2010, The Male Voice Choir Class. It also won the under 40 voices class in the 2009 Cornish International Male Voice Choral Festival and in the same year received an award from The Cornish Gorsedd as “The Best Light Music Group”.
In November 2010 we were pleased to be asked to provide some backing for a recording by Ralph McTell.
More recently, the group was placed second equal in the under 40 voices class in the 2013 Cornish International Male Voice Choral Festival, and adjudged best overall Cornish Choir.
In 2018 our group welcomed a new musical director. Naomi Carne is a proffessional Soprano singer and Cellist, and she also teaches at Truro School. She has introduced some exciting pieces to our repetoire and has entertained us all with her larger than life, bubbly personality.
The group can be hired for any event, whether it be a wedding, church fundraiser or even to add atmosphere to your pub! We are a registered charitable, non profit making organization, but ask a fee for our expences.
