Angela grew up in Leicestershire before studying for a degree in Music from Leeds University followed by a Music Post Graduate Teaching Certificate. Throughout her teaching career she has worked with children from Early Years to Secondary in Bedfordshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire, before finally moving to Cornwall in 2004. Her work in schools has enabled her to cultivate a passion for leading and developing singing as well as directing a variety of childrens’ choirs, and Boys choirs.
On moving to Cornwall, Angela initially worked at Truro High School for Girls before working as Vocal Leader for Truro Cathedral’s Primary Schools’ and Youth Outreach programmes. She was made Director of Cornwall Junior Choir in 2008.
Angela was made Area Leader for Sing Up in Cornwall in 2008, developing training for teachers to support them to lead singing- from Gospel to Singing for the totally Terrified! This programme was a great success which has led to the development of a locally based schools programme, Sing to Success.
As well as leading the Sing to Success programme with KEAP and Truro Prep School, Angela currently teaches at Truro School Prep where she is in charge of Music and the school’s choirs. She also directs Holman Climax Male Choir, was recently nominated for the Gramophone Community Award, established the Changing Voices programme for boys in Cornwall,
Angela took over the reins as MD for Eight In A Bar from Gareth Churcher in January 2014 and has taken us forward with new musical pieces and in diferent, interesting directions!
Ruth graduated in music at Southampton University where she gained a BA and Masters Degree in Music Performance. She is an accomplished performer of piano, organ and violin, was a member of the Cornwall Youth Orchestra at the age of 13, and has played in the University of Southampton Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta.
